I adore the style of Fassbinder and Roeg, the lush cinematography of Michael Powell and Hitchcock, the existential mystery of Kieslowski and Tarkovsky and Bergman, the dialogue of Billy Wilder and Robert Altman, the irreverence of Bunuel and Fellini, and the sexy alienation of Antonioni and Agnes Varda. I can usually find something to like in every movie I watch, so I am very open minded. I have recently begun to explore movies outside my “comfort zone” – such as Asian films, westerns, gangster films, and silent films – and have found that I love many of those as well. I have watched about 255 films in the Criterion Collection, and now I am also looking for other lists/canons to follow – such as Jonathan Rosenbaum’s Personal Canon of 1,000 films. I LOVE getting recommendations, so please suggest something!
