About Me

I am addicted to cinema and sleep. I was a low level government hack, now I’m just a hack. More money, more problems, more movies.

I’m gonna have a heart attack trying to turn the tide of resentment towards John Ford and Robert Wise back around.

I run a movie blog over at: http://www.octopuscinema.blogspot.com called Octopus Cinema. I’m tired, weak and getting sleepy.

I like my whiskey hard, my women soft, and my west all to myself.

Youth in Revolt

Really enjoyed it. Cera does his usual Cera thing, but then plays off that with his 'supplementary persona' which is one of the most ludicrously enjoyable visual punchlines of the year. Hearing Cera's timid voice saying these awful, grotesque phrases is so surreal it really adds a lot to the film.

It's cool to see that someone like yourself, who seems much more educated on westerns, shares my love for Monte Hellman's "The Shooting."

Brand upon the Brain!

Brand upon the Brain!

Perhaps the most appropriate image in all of Guy Maddin’s work is contained within the final chapter of Brand Upon the Brain - Guy’s proxy kneels at the foot of a long gone object of desire, Wendy…  read review

La petite marchande d'allumettes

The Little Match Girl

Maybe my favorite silent film of all time, a really beautiful story about a girl left in the cold. Renoir flexes his directorial muscles and imbues this story with a preciousness it could not otherwise…  read review
