So I finally got this through Netflix and they sent me the theatrical cut which is shorter than the television cut. From the brief amount of reading I’ve done on this I understand that the theatrical cut is Bertolucci and Storaro’s preferred cut despite its shorter length. I also have just been briefed on the debate about the aspect ratio and how Bertolucci and Storaro have betrayed the original exhibition of the film for their own pet ideas about composition, ignoring the fact that it looks better in the wider aspect.
So, PLEASE without getting into a debate about artists rights and ratio and what have you, I’m just curious what you all PERSONALLY think the best version of the film is.
