I’ve put them altogether rather than each group separately, to avoid interruptions.

Well, UK are taking chances, that should be very interesting group- UK opponents fielding strong teams against them whereas i’ve played safe (with favourite films, mind, and respecting my opponents), in the expectation of all possibly attacking me, but anyway set myself a very hard task for later. Trying to avoid just the usual suspects later, hope it’s not too boring at this stage but i didn’t want obscurity overload for group stage viewing either. We do want votes in all matches!

If any objections to selections, irregularites or errors noticed, please speak now. Bob for Australia picked another by Beresford but it wasn’t available for viewing so went for Black Robe, joint Canadian-Australian film, as late substitute and perfectly fine.

So get viewing! Managers will not be allowed to vote on matches in their own group, and also please be honest when voting later, not tactically over who future opponents might be.

Kick-off will be 1st September hopfully.

Can managers and others provide links for viewing, and can Auteurs help where possible please?

If there are viewing access problems, we’ll hopefully sort them out

I’ve got to go out (on my crutches), remember there will be further viewing breaks after each set of 16 films. we go down in order, 2 matches a day from each group, the first 2 matches from Group, then first 2 from group 2, first 2 from group 3, down to group 8, then a break and the next set of 16 in the same way

I hope we get a separate section on Auteurs, but anyway later i or Apursansar or manmagers can each list their directors separately, though they are alreday identified. I don’t anyone’s exceeded the limit of 6.

Glad you’re on the ball, it’s taken ages this morning to rearrange each manager’s selections into matches, and my internet connection’s been on the blink. Praying i’ve not messed up anything. Got to go, sorry

You have done great, Kenji. Go out without any apologies. (But do not drive pass your destination.)

After a quick glance, these are some of my favorite match-ups. All sorts of cognitive dissonance going on here.

Stagecoach (Ford) v Neco z Alenky/Alice (Svankmajer)
The Grapes of Wrath (Ford) v Syndromes and a Century (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
My Neighbour Totoro (Miyazaki) v Prisoner 13 (De Fuentes)

This one is just brutal;
The Sacrifice (Tarkovsky) v The Wind will Carry Us (Kiarostami)

And this is one…I wonder what the odds are…
Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (Paradjanov) v Shine (Hicks)

Law, that is awesome. Thanks for the links. I’ve got some serious searching to do for a lot of these, hell, maybe even most of them, so any help like that is much appreciated.
I’ll check for more links when I get home from work.

Grey Daisies, I love your profile and what you are doing here. I will be seeing all the Austrian shorts as soon as possible.

i think the time limit won’t be so difficult, especially since YouTube could be a much more significant assistance than we’ve thought,hehe..well…speaking for my part at least :P

Kenji,i believe you are right, everything could go upside down…but damn,i knew you’d put that Mizoguchi film,i just knew it :P

throughout this weekend,i’ll be searching for any assistance for uploading some films which are hard to find…

kudos to Law for the first step of assistance…

Berjuan

Am I the only one who thinks it should have been 1 film vs. 1 film instead of 3 vs. 3 films per match? Can somebody explain the logic to me? Would it not be more fun and dramtic to have 1 vs 1?

Law,
Great job.

Josh S.

When did Phantom of the Opera become a New Zealand film? :|

Dimitris

Rupert Julian was born in New Zealand and i think most of the fellas here considered it as a New Zealand entry despite being made in the States…

Josh S.

Dimitris: That would explain why The Trial is an American film too. Thanks. :)

Berjuan, yes, 1 film vs 1 film certainly would be more dramatic, but I think the big drawing point of this whole event was that we get to see a lot of films that we wouldn’t otherwise.

Alex Krupl

OMFG!!1111oneone

Berjuan

Blue K,
I know, but thats 288 films for the first round… at some point its going to become diffucult to participate. I personally don’t think I will be able to find all 288 and I just won’t have the time to watch them. I guess I’ll just have to choose a group and vote on those films, but I would have liked to be able to participate more, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.

Law

Does this thread serve as a discussion thread too?

I have just seen Copy Shop, a black comedy short surrounding an identity crisis (my first impression), with much thanks to Grey Daisies. I loved the short. Next up will either be another Austrian short or Ucho.

It’s up against Pasolini. This might be immensely difficult.

That’s a valid point, Berjuan. But I’m sure you’ve seen a good chunk of these films already as have many people who are participating in this event as either managers and/or voters. We have allotted for an approximate 2-month period for watching the films, but maybe we can extend that as well. But watch what you can and please participate. If nothing else, the rosters of films can serve as future viewing guidelines. And thanks for the feedback, nothing is yet set in stone as far as scheduling is concerned, so the two main organizers—Kenji and Apursansar—will appreciate it as well.

ozufan

Thanks to Grey Daisies for those shorts. Just watched them all and enjoyed every one of them, but absolutely loved Fast Film.

Lucas Granero

Wow,
this is so amazing
Can’t wait for some matches!

Andre

We should have a separate thread with links for the movies. This one will grow up very fast soon and so it will be impossible to parse over this to find if anyone as posted certain movies.

Law

Perhaps we can keep a document with the page no. of each movies’ link? That way, if a link expires, we can just change the document, which shall be posted every page.

Dimitris

yes,Law and Andre do have a point,we need to secure a different thread alone in order to post every single film of the ones especially that will be difficult to find.

i doubt if the link will quickly expire,we’ll just go group by group and take it as the line-up suggests.
