I visited the imdb site and viewed an alternative and quite frankly better dvd cover of Marienbad. Does anyone know which cover will actually be used in the release of this dvd? Please metion it in the next posting.

That’s one of the temp covers that was leaked online a while ago.

It’s cool that you like it, but I find it to be incredibly boring so such a unique film, criminally so. Personally, I love the official Marienbad cover Criterion made, and I’ve described why it works so perfectly for the film in some previous thread around here. It’s honestly one of the greatest works of design they’ve ever done in terms of playing off of the themes of the film itself, yet I feel it will forever be unappreciated.

I have a feeling that LYAM will be a digipack with the cover art on imdb as the inside case, but I hope it isn’t and they go for a Breathless-style collage of stills on the inside.

theawl.com appended a little (unofficial) notice to the Criterion ad for this disc on the site, bearing the legend “15 More Minutes Of Fart Jokes” – Pretty funny, actually

It would have been genius if that was one of our fake covers…

I am so happy to have Marienbad from Criterion I could care less what the cover looks like – I will be viewing the film not the cover. . . what ever, I think the white background and imposed letting on the front looks just fine.

I had been really disappointed about the cover when I saw the picture online, but I completely changed my mind when I actually bought the dvd, because, since the letters are actually embossed on the cover and aren’t colored, everything except the logo disappears when you look at it at a certain angle, leaving a blank white cover. I think that’s pretty much the coolest thing ever.

Yep, Nate, I agree. When I originally saw the cover online I thought it was dreadfully dull, but I purchased it the other day and it looks gorgeous- one of Criterion’s finest, I’d venture to say. It’s a texture thing.

BEST. COVER. EVER.

Only if the criterion logo disappears (or embossed) will make it better, and have the French title instead.

Just like how it is in the opening credits.
