Tokyo Story VS. Good Morning

I have just watched Good Morning and I honestly liked it more than Tokyo Story which I loved. I am not saying it’s a better film but a more enjoyable one for sure. Am I being superficial? Does anybody feel the same?

what you like is what you like. I didn’t care for it because I thought the kids were brats and needed some kind of comeupance. Tokyo Story is not among my top 5 Ozu either, as I’m more of a Equinox Flower/Late Spring/Early Summer kind of guy.

Alex, you are not alone, one of my friends takes “Good Morning” as her top Ozu. I also have just watched it but I still love “Tokyo Story” better; however, I agree that “Good Morning” is a more enjoyable one. “Good Morning” is my first Ozu’s colored picture and I was amazed by how beautiful the color is. I can’t wait to see another one.

Tokyo Story is a harder film to watch. It’s rather dark overall, it’s longer, and there is much less plot (if there is truly plot in any of Ozu’s late films it’s mostly in Good Morning). I think Tokyo Story is the better film, but I certainly understand why someone would like Good Morning more. I think I’ll go watch Good Morning… all this talk makes me want to see it again.
