imdb is good if you go to individual boards for individual directors
I used to spend hours on IMDb until one day I came across this site. I tried to return but I would get too frustrated. I now rarely go on there and am always on here.
I wish this place were more active. i just discovered theauters through the criterion site, and there are some great cinema lovers here, I just wish they posted more often.
iMDb is only good for looking at upcoming releases.
IMDb is good for movie info, and very bad for intelligent discussion. The Auteurs helped ween me off IMDb as well. WHOOOO!!!!!
imdb is invaluable for info, horrible for discussion.
and i can’t really talk to my friends or my wife about film because their eyes glaze over whenever i do
Everyone’s hit it right on the nose. I second all prior sentiments.

Thoughts welcome.
IMDb provides us with good fodder
Holy shit, man, you many never see me here ever again! But who cares ,right.
IMDb is GREAT- but it is unfortunately flooded by people who don’t know anything about movies nor know how to rate.. The top 1,000 contributors are the people who go through every movie giving it 5 stars whether they have seen it or not.
The best films are under-appreciated on IMDb, which is ruled by the most “popular” films.
I respect IMDB very much, good place to find similar thoughts on films, lots of junk around that, but it’s the same everywhere…
IMDb is for the general public, The auteurs is for those who appreciate cinema and love film.
I like that stupid people think they know what they’re talking about on IMDB, and then you can totally destroy their favourite films because you actually do know what you’re saying. But, I hate people, so…
The debate on the site is nonexistent, though, which is why I don’t spend any time on there anymore.
Yeah, and it doesn’t get any better even on the indie film section. Overall, I see they don’t care much about non-American movies.
Besides more posters, the only difference between IMDB and this site is that IMDB is a LOT less pretentious. Starting with the name.
I still use IMDB to get filmography of anybody in question, it is a fun site unless you really want to follow their ratings, top250 or the discussions (which I have never actively took part in), for the past 5 months whatever time I spend on cinema on the web is at the auteurs…
theauteurs – pretentious, yes as much as it is genuine…IMDB – may sound less pretentious but completely ignorant of world cinema, which does not ring a bell…
Simon
And I just want to say
“Thank you, The Auteurs, for existing”
