Like the consept and idea. A calm movie with very nice shots/scenes. One problem though is that the white subtitles often are on a white background.

This film remained me the famous Stalker by Tarkovsky,- but of course is an other film with other point of view. But the place, as it is mysteriously somewhere at the middle of nowhere , out of time, specially from an oriental culture unrecognisable, definitely not the purgatory and not the heaven, like in a Stalker, where the people want to go to find their identity , but finally they do not dare to chose: they do not dare to enter to their own way! Hirukazu Kore-Eda goes further with this film, he created a very fanny, very human, surrealistic collage-film in a sense of the time, to help the people with their best memory: go back to the point from where they could start a life with happiness! because they do not know what the happiness mean! He is acting like a good teacher teach us with his film not frightening , only teach with love and humour! Even it is about "after life", but would it be very useful to watch for everyone, who got sick because did not listen to his/her inner life! A really great film with its original way!!!

Forget-me-not...a concentrate of poetry and blossoming humanity. If only this movie could come true...what would you do?

Fanciful, but simple and powerful conceit realised in a poetic but understated way.

I'm not sure what to say about this film. It is rather slow, nonetheless, it leaves you wanting more. It is dramatic at times, but not in the sense of "drama" as we generally know it, but inspiring and eye-opening. I regard the photography to be prime, nonetheless the audio to be sub-prime. The movie is a great one in general, but the ending was not my favourite. I think it could have been closed in a warmer way.

I've seen it several years ago (i bought the dvd in Tokyo) . very clever. and moving, too. Japanese cinema is often surprisingly good. however , the movie it's just one more (noble) attempt to give an answer to the only question that chase us hroughout our life: why everything, why there is not the void?

One defining moment? This makes you reassess your life and think about what's important and also what sort of memories you would want to leave for others

A moment Just one moment What Moment? An explanator oney? A conclusive? A bucolic? A poetic? The happiest? The most real? Or surreal? Of self-affirmation? Of self-discovery? Merely breathing? Childlish? Mature? ... If I still cannot choose one, does it mean it is still to come? ...

While I found the execution somewhat rough on this particular film, I found it at the time of viewing, a great look into nostalgia, death, and to a certain degree, redemption. Nobody Knows is definitely his better film, but After Life still hold a certain sentimental value for me that elevates it above his latter work.

I love this film - what a wonderful concept to look back on your entire life to choose one truly happy moment you want to be in for eternity. Deeply touching and reflective film - I like this film very much.

This is a wonderful movie. It speaks to the viewer on so many levels and of course raises as many questions as it answers.

A simple, stunning and candid film which raises the question of the meaning of death and if/when it ever occurs, the attachment to memory and the way in which a person lives life - and how a person learns to appreciate.

An auteur film for everyone - and that's quite a feat. It's heartfelt and straightforward enough that I could show it to my mom. And at the same time it triggers contemplations on the construction of memory and the nature of film.

This is a heart centred film emphasising that life is made of moments and some are much more significant than others, Finding those of real significance is a surprising process. This is a clever film that largely succeeds although perhaps the essence of the tale could be told more succinctly. The idea of death being so very, very mundane, with endless cups of tea is just one of the bits of wry humour in this film.

A film that actually gets you to look back on your life and try to remember the times you were truly happy.

Very interesting film, I thought the use of memory in this sense brought upon a lot of self reflection, it's amazing seeing how other people view their lives and how everything truly is about perspective.
