Cannes a la Flip Competition

Official Rules

Set forth below are the Official Rules of the Cannes à la Flip Short Film Competition (the “Competition”) which is being presented by The Auteurs in association with the makers of the Flip Video camcorder (collectively, the “organizers”). All interpretations of the Official Rules and all determinations of compliance therewith will be made by the organizers in their sole and absolute discretion.

Eligibility And Application

In order to be eligible to be selected to participate in the Cannes à la Flip Competition as In-Competition Participants (as described below), individuals must be registered with the Short Film Corner 2008 prior to May 7, 2008. Individuals who are not registered with the Short Film Corner 2008 prior to May 7, 2008 may only be selected as Additional Participants (as described below). All Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Employees of the organizers, sponsors, the Short Film Corner, Festival de Cannes and their partners, as well as their immediate family members or persons residing with them, are not eligible for this Competition.

To be considered for participation in the Competition, all individuals must submit a written synopsis of their proposed film as directed on www.theauteurs.com/competitions/1 during the period beginning at 11:00 am on May 7, 2008, and ending at 8:00 pm on May 15, 2008 (all times noted herein will be Cannes local time). All decisions with respect to participation will be made by The Auteurs in its sole and absolute discretion.

The organizers will select 250 individuals from among the applicants who were registered with the Short Film Corner 2008 prior to May 7, 2008 as “In-Competition Participants” in the Competition based upon the synopses submitted. Such selection will be made by The Auteurs in its sole and absolute discretion.

The 250 Participants who are selected for the Competition will be notified by email prior to midnight on May 15, 2008. Such Participants will be permitted to pick up their Flip Video camcorders at the Short Film Corner between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm during the period beginning on May 16, 2008 and ending on May 20, 2008. In order to receive their Flip Video camcorders, Participants must confirm in writing that they will enter the Competition.

In addition to the 250 Participants selected for the Competition as described above, The Auteurs reserves the right to select up to 150 Additional Participants from the student program of the American Pavilion to be eligible to submit films as described below, provided that such films accord with these rules. The Additional Participants will not be eligible for awards, and none of their films will be considered in the Competition, with the exception of five Additional Participants, chosen by the American Pavilion with approval from The Auteurs.

Rules Governing Submitted Work

The submitted work must be filmed on a Flip Video camcorder and produced during the time period beginning at 11:00 am on May 16, 2008, and ending at 5:00 pm on May 21, 2008 (“Filming Period”).

The submitted work must not exceed three minutes in length.

Each entrant must sign a release form in the form determined by the organizers.

Participants must be the authors of the submitted works. Any plagiarism or use of third-party content will result in automatic disqualification.

To be valid, submissions must be uploaded to www.theauteurs.com/competitions/1 no later than 5:00 pm on May 21, 2008 (Cannes time).

All works accepted will be exhibited on The Auteurs and Facebook and on other web sites at times and in the manner determined by Facebook and the organizers, in their sole discretion.

Once a short film has been entered in the competition, it may not be withdrawn.

Method of Selecting Winners

Finalists will be selected by The Auteurs in its sole discretion. A jury formed by the organizers and chaired by Hengameh Panahi, Founder and President of Celluloid Dreams, will evaluate the top ten films and award a Grand Prize to the best one.

The award will be presented at an award ceremony at the Short Film Corner on Thursday, May 22nd, 2008, at 4pm (Cannes time). Winners must be present at the ceremony to accept their awards.

Awards

The Grand Prize will be USD $10,000, awarded by Facebook.

Second Prize will be an HP laptop + DVDs from The Criterion Collection.

Third Prize will be an HP laptop

Those Participants selected for the Top Ten will receive an Auteurs t-shirt.

All In-Competition Participants who submit films will be permitted to keep their Flip Video camcorders.
